FAQ'S

The most effective way to layer for the cold is to use a three-layer system that balances warmth, breathability, and protection. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat off your skin and prevent chilling. Add a mid layer that provides insulation while regulating temperature during changing activity levels. Finish with an outer layer: a waterproof, windproof shell for active use in harsh weather, or an insulated jacket for low-activity or extreme cold. Done right, this system keeps you warm, dry, and comfortable without overheating
Our range of insulated jackets, fleeces, base layers and trousers has been worn by Co-Founder Staz in his fastest known ascent of Mount Everest from London as well as his summit of Ama Dablam three years prior. Adventurer Aldo Kane has trusted layers to the bottom of the ocean and the mountains of Banff whilst former Special Forces Operator Jason "Foxy" Fox and team wore the complete layering system for their Arctic Ultra on Project Fire & Ice. Explorer Lucy Shepherd has recently taken ThruDark layers to the South Pole in a record sit ski expedition.
Yes - friends of the brand Jonny Pain and Marc Rhodes have both successfully completed the BTU Ice Ultra wearing the complete ThruDark layering system. Marc even achieved a podium finish in the 2025 Ice Ultra.
