The best materials for mountaineering are those which provide durability, preventing rips from scuffs and scrapes, weather resistance for mitigating the effects of wind, rain or snow but also remain breathable and flexible during periods of high activity. For this we use the latest in synthetic technology like Pertex Quantum, Polartec fleece and eVent fabric.

When it comes to mountaineering clothing, try to avoid certain natural fibres like cotton which typically does not bend, breathe or withstand the tough physical demands of mountaineering.

When mountaineering, opt for long trousers rather than shorts as these will provide additional protection from the elements and terrain. Certain pairs, like our Charge Trousers, even feature boot hooks to keep out the worst of the weather, allowing you to climb in comfort.

Experienced mountain climbers will rely on a good layering system, wearing a base layer, mid layer and outer layer to best maximise breathability, insulation and weather protection. This layering system will also be packable, allowing the experienced mountaineer to stow layers as required during times of milder conditions and/or high activity.
