The only time you will need to wear a base layer under your hiking trousers is whilst you're remaining static during temperatures below freezing. Our Stealth and Mountain Pro thermal base layers are worn by mountaineering instructors and wildlife photographers alike for this exact reason, when you're not working hard physically, you're not generating as much body heat and you will feel the cold. However, the good news is that we don't tend to lose much heat through our legs moreso through our extremities such as our toes or fingers. That's why if you're ever somewhere extremely cold we would rather advocate for warm gloves and socks, thermal base layers for your legs are a bonus for additional comfort. Otherwise, if you're in milder temperatures or even highly active in the cold, a breathable pair of outdoor trousers should do the job.

Our Charge Trousers are constructed from the same Belgian cotton used in elite military uniforms and are reinforced with stronger than steel Dyneema® and high tenacity Cordura® which makes them best placed for scrambling and tackling more technical terrain like those you'd find in the mountains.

For more casual, weekend hiking our Command Trousers retain the durability of a NYCO ripstop with a lighter construction, featuring four way stretch panels for breathability and ease of movement. Lighter than our Charge Trousers but robust enough for hiking trails and day to day wear.

In colder climates, pursuits such as winter hiking or alpine climbing consider our slightly thicker Strike Pants. Reinforced with Dyneema® at the cuffs for added durability, especially from the scuff of crampons. With articulated pockets to maintain access when wearing a climbing harness and magnetic pockets for easy access when wearing gloves.

Our HeriTech Sylvan Trousers are cut in a sharp tapered fit with a rugged ripstop cotton. However the addition of TekWax® panelling from British Millerain adds spray resistance should you get caught out off the beaten path.
