Four Frontiers

Four races. Four of the most hostile environments on earth. Beyond the Ultimate's Global Race Series is a self-sufficient, multi-day ultramarathon series that crosses Swedish Lapland inside the Arctic Circle, runs deep into the Amazon Rainforest, traverses the Namib, the world's oldest desert, and climbs the Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan, one of the planet's largest and least explored ranges. Athletes carry everything they need to survive. No support crews. No resupply. Expedition-style racing at its most uncompromising. Widely regarded as the toughest ultramarathon series in the world, and the results of every edition justify that claim.

ThruDark x Beyond the Ultimate

We build clothing and equipment to perform in real conditions. The Global Race Series puts it through four of them, in sequence. Sub-zero cold and frostbite risk in the Swedish Arctic. Sustained heat and equatorial humidity in the Amazon. Unrelenting UV exposure and extreme dehydration risk crossing the Namib. High-altitude exposure and unpredictable mountain weather in the Tian Shan. Each environment tests different demands: cold weather insulation, hot climate breathability, UV protection, durability under multi-day, high-output movement. Every athlete who reaches the finish line carries a story of a deliberate decision to face something genuinely hard. This is what it means to "Endeavour Through Adversity".

MOUNTAIN ULTRA

The Mountain Ultra covers the shortest distance in the series. It is the most technically demanding. The Tian Shan stretches 2,500km, home to some of the largest glaciers outside the polar regions. 10,500m of total ascent over 200km. Entry requires either a prior Global Race Series finish or completion of the full-distance Montane Spine Race — there is no easier route in. Shop the kit list.

The Ice Ultra takes place in February, above the Arctic Circle, in temperatures that reach -40°C. Sixteen hours of darkness per day. Snowfields, Arctic tundra and frozen lakes underfoot. The 40-place capacity reflects the severity of what participants are asked to do. The 2027 edition is already sold out. Any kit failure at these temperatures is not an inconvenience — it is a genuine risk. Damian Hall, Team GB trail runner and UTMB top-20 finisher, won the 2018 edition.
